nivedita_basu1Nivedita, who’s been with the production house for nine long years. She has seen it grow over the years from Hum Paanch to the famous saas-bahu shows like Kyunki… Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi … and Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii . But then, she’s also been part of the lows, be it the expensive Kkavyanjali that didn’t deliver the desired results a few years ago or the more recent Kahaani Hamaarey Mahabharat Ki .
So, what really prompted Nivedita’s exit? Some say it was because of growing creative differences. Nivedita apparently was asked to keep away from the new shows. “The production house felt she was becoming too big for her boots,” says an actress, who’s done many serials with them.

The production house is currently revamping its entire strategy to tackle growing competition in tellyland. New top management people have been hired, who are bringing in a new system, with total emphasis on delivering results. “This is the reason for the old guard crumbling. There has been a shake-up with some people quitting and some being asked to. Quite a few changes in the organisation are taking place,” pointed out one of the assistant directors.

When contacted about Nivedita’s quitting, Ekta Kapoor said, “Nivi is a dear friend and will always remain one. I wish her good luck.”
So, what’s Nivedita up to these days? “I’ve just got some time for myself after so long,” she said. “There’s lots to do. I’m writing a film script that I hope to make sometime in the future. About joining another place, let’s see. I have offers from production houses and channels and I might take it up.” There have been no creative differences with Ekta, she insisted. “If we had differences, we would have had them a long time back. There is no bad blood at all. I went on a holiday abroad in November and by the time I returned I’d made up my mind. I have been with them for nine years. I felt it was time to move on,” said Nivedita.

Will her exit change the fortunes of the production house? Well, only time will tell. But, then as they say, the show must go on…

Frankly, it’s none of my business. And who really cares about what went wrong between two people who’ve worked together for a long time. Maybe both are looking out for better opportunities. I don’t think we should poke our noses into others’ lives.

I really don’t know about this. But yes, it’s an internal matter and I don’t have anything much to say on the issue. So many people come and go in an organisation and such things happen all the time, so I don’t see what the big deal is.

This is news to me. I’ve been associated with her for a very long time now. And I know how she’s grown over the years and reached the top position. I don’t know the reason for the split, but I do wish Nivedita all the best. I can’t really comment on the repercussions.

I think it’s surprising that something like this is happening. There must be some good reason for it. As I see it, it’s high time a change comes about on television with regards to the serials. Maybe Nivedita has got some better offers on hand, or the production house is going in for an image make-over.
